Mesotherapy – What Is It And What Does It Do?
Earlier this year I introduced a brand-new treatment in clinic – WOW Fusion. This treatment combines dermal needling (a procedure that provides highly targeted ‘damage’ to the skin in order to stimulate fibroblasts to produce collagen in the treatment area, helping to improve skin texture and tone) and mesotherapy. But what is mesotherapy? And what does it do?
Mesotherapy Explained
Mesotherapy refers to a treatment that involves the injection of a serum of chemical compounds (chosen specifically for their ability to rejuvenate the skin) directly into the mesodermal layer of the skin. Typically, Mesotherapy is delivered via injections or using a ‘Meso-gun’ – in clinic, I favour injectable treatments using products from FILLMED for the majority of my traditional mesotherapy treatments.
Of all of the mesotherapy products available, one that I regard most highly is NCTF® – New Cellular Treatment Factor – which is now considered to be a skin rejuvenating benchmark. This specialist mesotherapy treatment can help to produce a 147% increase in fibroblast stimulation, a 256% increase in collagen stimulation and a 90% reduction in free radicals. It was developed in the 1970’s and 80’s by a pioneering French doctor who specialised in aesthetic medicine and cellular biology, Dr. Michel Tordjman, and has been cited in a number of medical reviews and publications over the last few decades.
Generally, mesotherapy uses a mixture of vitamins, enzymes, amino acids, hormones and plant extracts to help tackle skin laxity and help rejuvenate the skin. It can also be used in fat reduction treatments, for hair loss and to treat cellulite, and the treatment ‘serum’ ingredients can be adapted depending on the condition that is being treated.
Wow Fusion
WOW Fusion is one way of administering mesotherapy treatments; In a WOW Fusion treatment, the skin rejuvenating and tightening serum containing Hyaluronic Acid, multivitamins, minerals, amino acids and peptides is introduced into the epidermal-dermal junction using a series of 20 tiny and superfine needles, each of which is plated in 24K gold. These needles have a small spiral groove on the outside of the needle that allows the serum to flow easily into the skin during the treatment.
WOW fusion, like traditional mesotherapy, also allows for bespoke mesotherapy treatments, as the little glass vial that sits below the needle head can be filled with a serum cocktail that specifically meets an individual’s unique skincare needs. Despite the number of serum variations possible, the outcome is consistent – the serum helps to nourish and rejuvenate the skin (helping to increase hydration, skin brightness, texture and tone) whilst the micro-needling aspect of the treatment helps to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the treatment area.
